“It’s astounding how much one’s stress level goes down with the simple act of switching from skinny jeans to yoga pants.” – Unknown

STRESS. Everyone has it in their lives (to a certain degree) but how it’s managed is often the difference between health and sickness. I honestly did not realize how powerful stress and its effects on the body could be until recently. I’ve spent some time researching best practices at managing stress.

Here’s my TOP 5:

1. Meditation: For years I’ve wanted (and halfheartedly tried) to master this practice with little success. Then a good friend was singing its praises in her life and I tried it again. Some of the healthiest people I know (both physically and mentally) practice some form of meditation. Since taking an online course in January I’m grateful to say I am now practicing with some consistency and feel the benefits every time. I’d love to try a local meditation course – if you know of one please forward me the info by emailing me at bliss@blissandvinegar.net .

2. Exercise: We all know that exercise is one of the most effective ways to combat stress. A brisk walk, power work out (check out fitness partner, Orangetheory Fitness’ killer workouts*!) and yoga stretches are amazing at alleviating stress. *Join Bliss at Orangetheory this Wed., Aug. 16 for an awesome workout and Bliss samples! Details below.

3. Walk away: Sometimes the best thing to do is allow yourself a five minute reprieve from the situation causing you stress and BREATHE. (Maybe you can’t always physically remove yourself from the stress but the act of just closing your eyes and adjusting your breathing can work wonders.) Click HERE for some great stress-reducing breathing techniques (http://www.webmd.com/balance/stress-management/stress-management-breathing-exercises-for-relaxation) .

4. Have a plan: This is a proactive approach to reducing stress before it even happens. If you find yourself running from one thing to the next or stressed because you’re ill-prepared for your day the technique of writing down your day in advance will help you identify moments of possible stress and hopefully allow you to adjust accordingly. Stress also presents itself when people feel like they are not making progress – this exercise keeps you on track and moving forward.

5. Good nutrition: When you eat well your body responds accordingly. Good nutrition is key to living a balanced, healthy lifestyle. If you feel good your body is able to manage stress far better than it would on chips and dip. Incorporating a healthy diet into your daily routine is one of the best things you can do to manage stress… luckily Bliss is here to help in that department! I’m also thrilled to announce we’re kicking off a fall 30 Day Health Challenge on Tuesday, 9/5! Info meeting on 8/29 (details in newsletter).

Wishing you a great, healthy month! Thanks so much for your business!
